President Qiu Yong visits Japan


Qiu Yong, President of Tsinghua University, led a delegation on a visit to Japan from September 24th to 27th. The visit entailed in-dept exchanges with Japanese political, commercial and academic circles, and further advanced educational cooperation and constructed stronger cultural, scientific technological innovation links between China and their Japanese counterparts. President Qiu met with Toshihiro Nikai, the Secretary-General of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) of Japan, and shared their views on the stimulation of youth exchanges between China and Japan. In addition, President Qiu signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Aichi-ken prefecture, Nara-ken prefecture, Nagoya University, Waseda University and SBI Holdings respectively. In addition, visits were also made to the Tokyo metropolis, Toyota Motor Corporation and Kyoto University in efforts to further strengthen the bonds and cooperation between Tsinghua University and well-known organisations in Japan.

On September 27th, President Qiu addressed business and academic leaders at the Keidenren (Japan Business Federation). In his address, titled, “Innovation Shaping the Future,” he explored the intersection of education and innovation in the 21st century, clarifying the evolving space that universities occupy in the innovation ecosystem, emphasizing the importance of basic research, interdisciplinarity and cross-border cooperation amongst universities, enterprises and governments. Tsinghua University and the Keidenren signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to further promote exchanges and partnerships in the field of innovation.
