Chen Xu meets President McCutcheon of the University of Auckland, New Zealand
On September 3rd, Professor Stuart N. McCutcheon, President of the University of Auckland, New Zealand, visited Tsinghua University. Tsinghua University Council Chairperson Chen Xu met the guests in Gongziting. The two sides exchanged views on further expanding the exchange and cooperation between the two universities.
During the talks, Chen Xu welcomed Professor McCutcheon on his visit to Tsinghua again and thanked him for his important contribution to the development of the relationship between the two universities. Chen Xu noted that the University of Auckland was the first university in New Zealand to sign a cooperation agreement with Tsinghua University. In May 2007, Tsinghua University, Qinghai University and the University of Auckland signed the “The Three Brothers” agreement for the first time. Over the past ten years, the three sides have carried out in-depth cooperation in the fields of environmental protection, advanced materials and water resources management, and have obtained fruitful results. Chen Xu hoped that Tsinghua University and the University of Auckland would further strengthen personnel exchanges, carry out research cooperation in more various fields, promote the cooperation between the two universities into a new stage, and jointly cultivate more outstanding talents for the future.
Professor McCutcheon thanked Tsinghua University for his warm reception, and expressed his admiration for the achievements obtained by Tsinghua University in discipline construction and international development in recent years. He stated that over the past 20 years, the University of Auckland and Tsinghua University have maintained a stable and constructive cooperation relationship. The two sides have frequently visited each other, and the areas and forms of cooperation have been continuously deepened and expanded. The University of Auckland attaches great importance to “The Three Brothers” program, and has obtained remarkable achievements since its launch, laying a solid foundation for the cooperation between the two universities. He hoped that the future cooperation between the two sides could be expanded to cover the humanities, arts, languages, and education, as well as other fields, and active exploration could be carried out on new and effective channels for the joint training of high level talents.
