Nepalese Ambassador to China Leela Mani Paudyal talks about Nepal at the Tsinghua Culture Creativity Lecture


On November 29th, Nepalese ambassador to China Mr. Leela Mani Paudyal visited Tsinghua University and delivered a talk entitled “Nepal: A Country of Abundant Opportunities”. Professor Hang Min, Vice Dean of School of Journalism and Communication of the university attended and hosted the lecture.

 “In ancient times, Nepal was on the Southern Silk Road and the Tea Horse Road, and had played a vital role in linking China and all Southern Asia. The Nepal-China border remained a thoroughfare throughout history for trade and cultural exchanges between the two most ancient civilizations. Nepal is ready to work together with China to revive the glory of the ancient Silk Road and boost connectivity,” he said to over 200 students, scholars and faculty present to listen to his speech. 

According to Mr. Paudyal, there are also growing cultural exchanges, educational cooperation and think-tank deliberations among stakeholders of the two countries recently.

“Our future is interconnected, therefore let us collaborate for common prosperity,” he said.

After the speech, Mr. Paudyal answered questions from Tsinghua teachers and students.

Mr. Paudyal graduated from Tribhuvan University of Nepal and served as Chief Secretary of the Government of Nepal. Since November 2016, he has been serving as Nepalese Ambassador to China.

This Tsinghua Cultural CreativityLecture was co-sponsored by the preparatory committee of the China-Nepal Cultural Exchange Student Association of Tsinghua University and the Institute for Cultural Creativity, Tsinghua University. Tsinghua University China-Nepal Cultural Exchange Student Association, founded by three students from the School of Journalism and Communication, aims to promote cultural exchanges between China and Nepal, especially youth cultural exchanges by organizing cultural exhibitions, cultural lectures, and practice exchanges.

The Tsinghua Creativity Lecture is an exchange platform sponsored by the Institute for Culture Creativity, Tsinghua University. It aims to draw the attention of teachers and students from Tsinghua University to various cultures by focusing on creativity, paying attention to humanities, and disseminating cutting-edge ideas in the field of cultural creation. The institute has successfully organized 15 sessions so far. Former Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, and the Director of the Palace Museum, Shan Jixiang are some of the high-profile guests to deliver speeches as part of the lecture sessions.
