Tsinghua’s Chinese and international students visit Xinhua News Agency
--"Insight into China" Global Competence Social Practice
To allow international students to better observe, experience, and appreciate China, the Xinhua News Agency invited 15 Tsinghua students from nine countries to visit its bureau on November 30th. This event, as the second session of the “Insight into China” Global Competence Social Practice series, revolved around the theme of “Understanding the Social Responsibility and Business Model of China’s New Mainstream Media”. The event aimed to enhance the perception of mainstream media integration in China, to allow further exploration of media practices, and to “tell Chinese stories well”.

Yang Bin, the Vice President of Tsinghua University, extended his thanks to the Xinhua News Agency for their assistance and support. Yang Bin also introduced Tsinghua’s Global Strategy, as well as its dedication towards cultivating international talent. Tsinghua hopes to further strengthen its cooperation with Xinhua in areas including talent training,the development of media integration, and the construction of international communication power.

Afterwards, the students participated in a discussion with Xinhua staff on topics such as "Xinhua’s domestic and international role in the new era", "how to ensure the authenticity of news ", and "how AI could improve the level of reporting".

Tsinghua representatives also visited the News Publishing Center, the New Media Center, and the Multi-Media Studio. They had an opportunity to closely observe the production process of audio and video news, and to gain a deep understanding of Xinhua's content production process.


“Insight into China” Global Competence Social Practice Activity is sponsored by Department of Graduate Affairs, International Students & Scholars Center, Graduate School, Office of International Education, and is organized by the Communist Youth League Committee of Tsinghua University Graduate Students. The aim of the activity is to inspire Chinese students and international students to cooperate through the “1+1” mode, and to enhance their understanding of the globally focused issues and thoroughly build their global competence though bilingual communication with Chinese institutions. The first session of “Insight into China” Global Competence Social Practice Activity was successfully organized in JUNLEBAO Dairy Co., Ltd. in Shijiazhuang City on October 28th, 2017.
